During a low-vision exam, a doctor of optometry who provides low-vision rehabilitation will ask the patient for a complete personal and family-general health and eye history. In addition, the doctor will concentrate on the patient's visual difficulties, asking about how the visual impairment is affecting the patient's daily activities, computer use, reading, traveling, ability to recognize faces, functioning in the kitchen, driving, working, television viewing, attending school and participating in hobbies. The doctor will also screen for depression that is more common with vision loss. Low-vision doctors perform specialized refraction and thoroughly examine each eye. In addition, the doctors will measure the patient's visual acuity using special low-vision test charts. These charts include a larger range of letters or numbers to more accurately determine the level of vision impairment. They may also evaluate the patient's visual fields, investigate a patient's glare, contrast sensitivity and reading ability. At the conclusion of the evaluation, the doctor will create a comprehensive, individual rehabilitation plan based on the patient's visual abilities and goals. The vision rehabilitation will often happen over several visits to the clinic.

A neuro-ophthalmologic evaluation showed normal visual fields. Visual field testing is very sensitive in assessing damage to the optic nerves from elevated ICP,1 which helps guide further clinical management. For example, if the blind spot were to enlarge and the visual fields become restricted, one ought to consider more invasive interventions such as optic nerve sheath fenestration and/or CSF shunting to avoid permanent optic nerve damage and vision loss.2

A teacher of the visually impaired (TVI) is typically a person with a teaching license in general or special education. This person has additional specialized training to meet the educational needs of students who have vision loss. A TVI may teach in a classroom where all students have a vision impairment, work as a consultant to classroom teachers who have a student with vision loss in their classroom, and provide small group and individual lessons to students. TVIs identify learning strategies, techniques and materials for all aspects of the curriculum, from spelling to physics, and from music to physical education. In addition, they teach Braille, adaptive technology and independent and community living skills.
A Framework for K-12 Science Education outlines a broad set of expectations for students in science and engineering in grades K-12. These expectations will inform the development of new standards for K-12 science education and, subsequently, revisions to curriculum, instruction, assessment, and professional development for educators. This book identifies three dimensions that convey the core ideas and practices around which science and engineering education in these grades should be built. These three dimensions are: crosscutting concepts that unify the study of science through their common application across science and engineering; scientific and engineering practices; and disciplinary core ideas in the physical sciences, life sciences, and earth and space sciences and for engineering, technology, and the applications of science. The overarching goal is for all high school graduates to have sufficient knowledge of science and engineering to engage in public discussions on science-related issues, be careful consumers of scientific and technical information, and enter the careers of their choice.
A Framework for K-12 Science Education is the first step in a process that can inform state-level decisions and achieve a research-grounded basis for improving science instruction and learning across the country. The book will guide standards developers, teachers, curriculum designers, assessment developers, state and district science administrators, and educators who teach science in informal environments.
Please note: After researching and discussion with teachers, we have made changes to our field trip booking process and have streamlined things to be easier and more efficient for teachers and students. This new process will allow teachers to have their tickets in advance, bypass the ticket booth, and head straight to the entrance gate from the bus. These changes were not made lightly and our goal is to do what is in the best interest of students and teachers for a successful Zoo field trip. 2b1af7f3a8
