It seems to me that Greg's initial use of the CP-30 had a lot more tonal character than your average electric piano, due to its upper register's greater clarity and easily discernible treble edge. In the video, it really sounds like it is sounding the basic low string pitch, without the higher pitched modulation of the sustain pedal. But something about it just is a lot more appealing than a typical CP if that's what it sounds like. It's okay but not really the power pop, Guns N' Roses style of the instrument.
The only problem is, my axophone theory is that if you're making a synthesized axophone from scratch, you have to tune the instrument properly before you can do anything. I'm no expert, but the at best tuned pianos I'd ever heard sounded like this:
You can't do bright or gentle, you can only do sharp and dead. My best guess about the electric piano (based on the CP-30's sound in the video) is that MOTU have mapped out the most attainable tonal quality in the instrument. A definite step up from the Clavs and Rhodeses of the world, but still nowhere near the grand pianos of the outside world.
Piano sounds can also come from the Rhodes, Clav and the electric piano in any combination. Here we have the Motu electric piano with a Roland Clav, in which the electric piano dominates. It's a pretty cool sound for a small combo, featuring the relative transparency of the electric piano, but combined with the hefty 84 note Clav stomp.
To avoid errors you should always make sure your computer has updated to the latest version of DirectX. If none of the previous solution works, you should try updating DirectX. The way to check whether your DirectX is the latest version is downloading DirectX Runtime Web Installer from Microsoft's official website. Download the setup file and run it. Then you can follow on-screen steps to reinstall it. When installation completes, you need to restart computer. d2c66b5586
